Kathmandu. The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has slapped a fine of Rs 205,000 to Arghakhanchi Cement for not complying with the Consumer Protection Act.
During the monitoring, the Department took action against the offender as per Section 16 and Section 38 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 as per Section 39 (1) of the same Act.
According to the department, the market monitoring was carried out simultaneously in various industries and establishments in Rupandehi and Kathmandu on Sunday and fined those found indulging in indulgence.
It states that the actual quality, quantity, price measurement, design, or sale or delivery of the goods and services shall be deemed to be unfair trade and business activities.
Clause 39 of the Act states, “If a producer, transporter, hoarder, importer, seller or service provider of goods is found to have committed any of the following offences in the course of market monitoring, inspection, inquiry or search, the Inspection Officer may impose the following fine on him/her.”
As per the Act, the inspection officer can impose a maximum fine of two lakh to three hundred thousand rupees if found engaged in unfair trade activities.
Similarly, the department has also slapped a fine of two lakh five thousand on Tirupati Food Processing Industries, Siddharthanagar, Rupandehi.
The department has issued general directives to Panchakanya Steel. The Department on Sunday carried out onsite monitoring at Akwa Minerals, Triangle Beverage, Kundapani Processing Industry, Annapurna Industries, NB Beverage, Shubhakamana Mineral Water and Beverage, Chandeswori Mineral Water Aid Beverage, Jharana Pure Drinking Water Pvt Ltd and Kirtipur Cooperative Drinking Water Industry.
