Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has expressed dissatisfaction over making the MRP mandatory in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget. The association has said that it is impossible to make the label with MRP mandatory immediately brought by the government.

TAG_OPEN_div_10 The government has said that dealers, retailers and wholesalers will make labels with maximum retail price (MRP) mandatory on all goods, citing provisions of the Consumer Protection Act 2075 in the budget for the next financial year. This arrangement made by the government will come into effect from July 1.

A discussion TAG_OPEN_div_9 and consultation program was held between the representatives of districts, city chambers of commerce and industry and business organizations of different regions, including the association, about the provisions made in the budget. The delegates present at the event have clearly stated that it is practically impossible to immediately implement MRP on all types of items.

TAG_OPEN_div_7 We have been saying that the Act needs to be rewritten due to the inability to implement many of the provisions contained in the Act of 2073 BS, not matching the open market economy, and making it difficult for businessmen to do business due to impractical arrangements rather than the interests of consumers. The association said, “We request to hold serious discussions and collaboration with the stakeholders to ensure that the implementation of the Act is not conducive to creating an uncomfortable situation in the market and to facilitate the implementation of the Act.” ’
