Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has urged the Nepal Police to take action against those involved in looting, vandalism and arson on industries, businesses and private property during the Genji movement.

A team of office-bearers of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) met with Inspector General of Nepal Police Dan Bahadur Karki on Sunday and urged him to do so.

A team led by FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal drew the attention of IGP Karki to the issue saying that if action was not taken against those involved in the incident, impunity would flourish in the society and entrepreneurs would be discouraged.

FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal said that the agitation has not only weakened the morale of the private sector but also negatively affected the economic activities.

“The agendas of good governance and transparency raised in the Genji movement are the agendas raised by the FNJ. However, the recent Genji agitation and the infiltration during it have caused huge losses to the private industries. The morale of industrialists is weak. In this situation, it is necessary to guarantee the rule of law for industrial safety and stability,” he said.

He expressed the view that if the complaint was not registered against the culprits and there was indifference to the action, impunity would increase and the investment climate would be seriously affected.

Former President Shekhar Golchha said that security was the first condition for investment and if peace and security were not guaranteed, economic activities and investment would be discouraged.

“After the agitation, the entrepreneurs have filed a complaint with evidence, but they have not taken it. Entrepreneurs have been complaining that they have not received complaints from districts outside Kathmandu. This has created a kind of disappointment among the businessmen. Therefore, I urge you to take it seriously,” he said.

Similarly, FNCCI senior vice-president Anjan Shrestha said although the private sector was attacked in every movement, this time it was a planned attack. He stressed that guarantee of peace and security was essential as there would be no stability without peace and security and economic activities could not be carried out without stability.

On the occasion, Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki said peace and security was the foremost responsibility of the police and said that police was committed to maintaining peace and order in the country.

He expressed the view that anyone involved in violence, vandalism and anarchy during the agitation would be brought to book on the basis of evidence. “The private sector is the mainstay of the economy. The economy cannot function without the protection of this sector. Nepal Police is always sensitive to the security of the private sector and the general public. Everyone’s cooperation is essential in this,” he said.

Inspector General of Police Karki said the police offices in all districts have been directed to take action against those involved in attacks and vandalism on public and private properties during the agitation.
