Kathmandu. Police have arrested 51 years old Manoj Kumar Singh of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-27 on charge of cheating 48 youths of Rs 43.9 million.
Investigation revealed that Singh along with 51-year-old Laddu Bahadur Shrestha of Melung Rural Municipality-7 in Dolakha had swindled unemployed youths by promising them jobs at a hotel operated in Manchester City of the UK.
A team from Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested them from Mechinagar municipality-10, Dhulabari in coordination with the District Police Office, Jhapa. He used to cheat young men by pretending to be the nephew of the former king.
It has been revealed that he used to show fake employment agreement between his hotel and his company, fake letters from the British Embassy in Kathmandu, fake visa and air ticket to make the youths convinced.
They used to cheat young people with the lure of lucrative salaries. Superintendent of Police (SP) at the Crime Investigation Office, Kaji Kumar Acharya, said that they were arrested acting on a complaint by the victims that they had not been sent abroad for a long time even after paying the money.
According to SP Acharya, a case has been registered at the District Police Range, Kathmandu and two in Lalitpur on the charge of cheating Singh on the pretext of sending him to the US and Britain.
The office has also requested other victims of Singh’s gang to file a complaint with the Crime Investigation Office and District Police Range, Bhardakali with necessary documents for legal action against him.
