Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Banking Sector Reform Suggestion Task Force has suggested the need of a separate currency symbol to establish a separate identity of the Nepali rupee. Governor Dr. The task force formed by Bishwanath Poudel in May had made public the report submitted in June last year. In the report, the task force has suggested the need for a separate currency symbol for the Nepali currency.

According to the taskforce, the lack of an integrated currency in the current financial transactions, online banking, international auditing and digital payment system has made it difficult for Nepal to appear competitive in the global market.

The task force has drawn the conclusion that Nepal should immediately recognize its own symbols as the US dollar, euro, Indian rupee and other major currencies are in use around the world.
