. The National Statistical Office (NSO) has formally started collecting on-site data under the Second National Economic Census 2082 across the country.

The campaign, which has been launched with the slogan ‘Economic Census for Measuring the Economy’, will run from Chaitra 1, 2082 to Ashad end, 2083.TAG_OPEN_p_11 For this, 84 District Economic Census Offices have been set up in 77 districts and 4433 trained enumerators and supervisors will be deployed at institutions and business places from April 15 to June 20.

The purpose of the census is to collect basic data on the number of industries, trade, service sector, private business, cooperatives and public enterprises, geographical distribution, employment, production and service delivery across the country.TAG_OPEN_p_10

According to the office, the government aims to make the estimates of gross domestic product (GDP) more reliable from the coming fiscal year 208 TAG_OPEN_p_9 3/84 onwards, update the national accounting system and create the necessary financial base for the government’s policy decisions and plans. The census is expected to institutionalize the country’s economic data system in the long run.

According to the International Industrial Classification, economic activities in 18 out of 21 sectors will be included in the census.TAG_OPEN_p_8 Registered or unregistered, big and small industries, factories, businesses, non-governmental organizations, government-private educational and health institutions, among other economic units, will be included in the census. However, diplomatic missions, public administration, security agencies and domestic activities will not be included in it.

To make the counting easy and effective, the office has provided necessary technical facilities including online data filling facility, digital map, daily reporting system and a central control room.TAG_OPEN_p_7

The office has clarified that all the details of the respondents will be kept confidential as per the Statistics Act, 2079.TAG_OPEN_p_6 The office has urged all entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs, industrialists, service providers and stakeholders to provide truthful and complete details and help to make the census successful.
