Kathmandu. A total of 194 people have received treatment and counseling services through the ‘Nabil Free Burn Treatment Camp’ conducted at Province Hospital in Surkhet. The three-day camp was organized by Provincial Hospital Surkhet in collaboration with technical assistance of FACT Nepal.

According to the bank, 39 patients who came to the camp were operated by senior doctors. A serious patient has been referred to Kirtipur Hospital in Kirtipur, Kathmandu. The camp provided free treatment to the patients who had been waiting for proper treatment and surgery for a long time and were financially weak.

Samjhana Rokaya of Sinja Rural Municipality-5 was unable to move her hands due to burning sensation when she came to the camp. Rokaya said that after the surgery, her hands are now straight and she is confident that she can do household chores on her own. “I don’t have to depend on anyone else anymore and I feel like I can do all the work on my own, I want to thank everyone who helped me with my treatment,” she said.

Nabil Bank’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar Gyawali said that the camp was organized by Nabil Bank as a part of its corporate social responsibility targeting the burnt survivors of remote areas of Karnali Province. He added that similar camps would be organized in Lumbini and Madhes provinces as well in the coming days.

A team of specialist doctors including senior plastic surgeon Dr Shankar Man Rai of FACT Nepal’s Kirtipur Hospital performed the surgery on the patients of Karnali State.

Screening camps were set up at 16 different places of Karnali province before the camp was set up. In the screening camp, FACT Nepal’s health workers reached the local level and took the details of the initial patients.

Director of Provincial Hospital Surkhet Dr Ganesh Thapa thanked the organizers for conducting the camp at a time when many people in Karnali Province are still not getting proper treatment and expressed hope for additional support in coming days.

Earlier, the bank had conducted a free burn camp in the far-west. The first camp held in Dhangadhi from February 26 to 28 provided free treatment to 65 burnt patients.
