Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The mother’s face festival is celebrated across the country today on the occasion of Baisakh Krishna Paksha Aunsi, in honour of the birth mother.

According to the scriptures, this festival is taken as a day to pay reverence, devotion, respect and respect to the mother who is considered to be greater than Upadhyaya (Pandit), Acharya and father and to seek blessings from her.

It is customary for children to wake up early in the morning, take a bath and bless their mother by wearing nice clothes and eating sweet food. Those who do not have a mother remember the mother and the great and difficult deeds she has done by offering tarpan and pinda to the mother and feeding the priest with sidadan.

In the Sanatan Vedic scriptures, it is said that every man and woman should repay the debt of God, human debt and ancestor in life. The Vedic Sanatan Dharma scriptures have highlighted the importance of a mother and motherland saying ‘Janani Janmabhumischa Swargadapi Gariyasi’ which means the mother and motherland are greater than heaven and love, said theologian and member of Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee.

The importance of the mother is more than any other because she gives life to the child by holding her child in the womb for nine months. He also said that it is mentioned in the scriptures that the importance of a mother is thousand times more than that of father. Because of such importance, the living mother is honored and made happy by giving her sweet food and good dress.

In the name of the deceased mother, tarpan, pind daan and sidadaan are performed with reverence and devotion. According to Bhattarai, there is a scriptural belief that the departed mother performs shraddha along with tarpan, pindaan and sidadaan on the day of Baisakh Krishna Aunsi.

On the occasion, a fair is organised at Matatirtha in Chandragiri Municipality today. All preparations for the fair have been completed, said Mayor Ghanashyam Giri.
