Nepal-India border closed for 72 hours

Cover. The eastern border in West Bengal has been closed for 72 hours from Monday evening in view of the upcoming assembly elections.

Information Officer at the District Police Office, Jhapa, Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, said that the Darjeeling District Administration Office of India has completely stopped the movement of people and vehicles from 6:00 pm on Monday till the completion of voting on April 24.TAG_OPEN_div_10

The West TAG_OPEN_div_8 Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on April 26. In the past, both Nepal and India had agreed to stop the transit points before the elections. Information Officer at the District Police Office, Khadka, said although the movement of vehicles and pedestrians would be completely prohibited during the border seal period, the people for medical treatment and those for very essential work would be allowed to travel to the border border by showing their identity.

He said that the Indian administration would facilitate the movement of tourists from Nepal and Bangladesh to the country if they show identity documents.TAG_OPEN_div_6
