19,000 police personnel deployed in Manohara area to vacate squatters

Bhaktapur. The process of removing the unauthorised houses and huts built in the squatters on the banks of the Manohara River continues.

A total of 1,300 Nepal Police personnel and 600 Armed Police Force (APF) personnel deployed from Bhaktapur have been mobilized to demolish the structures, said Surya Bahadur Khadka, chief of the District Police Range.

According to him, the residents of the settlement were given until 9 am after they said that they would demolish their houses on their own. After that, the demolition of the houses started after a team with a bulldozer from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City arrived.

There are 777 houses in the settlement. Earlier on Saturday evening, seven big concrete houses were demolished here. During this time, the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were obstructed. Some squatters attacked and 22 security personnel were injured.
