Govt to curb misuse of state treasury: Govt directed to submit vehicle details today

. The government has shown active action to control the tendency of taking double and unlimited facilities from the state exchequer. KATHMANDU: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to furnish the exact details of vehicles being used by former high-ranking officials today itself.

The Home Ministry has been asked to provide clear details after the latest study conducted by the Prime Minister’s Office found that some former VIPs were using more vehicles than prescribed by the law or taking dual facilities from different bodies.TAG_OPEN_div_10 The letter also urged the former President, former Vice President, former Prime Minister, former Chief Justice, former Speaker and former National Assembly Chairpersons to send the details of the facilities being received by them via email within today’s office hours itself.

Deepa Dahal, press and research expert to Prime Minister Balendra Shah, said that the government has sought details strictly to prevent misuse of state coffers and maintain good governance.TAG_OPEN_div_8 According to him, the main objective of this directive is to make the system transparent by identifying the facilities taken beyond the scope of the law.

} The government has been criticized for using government resources against the standards for a long time. Based on the details received from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the government is preparing to return the vehicles of those taking more facilities than the standard and make the process more systematic.
