Gandaki. Pokhara—Pokhara Metropolitan City is to distribute 7,500 kilograms of paddy seeds to farmers this year.
Manhar Kadariya, chief of the Agriculture Development Section, said that the metropolis is providing paddy seeds to the farmers at 50 percent subsidy. According to him, more than 1,000 farmers in the metropolis have demanded 21,000 kilograms of paddy seeds and they have not been able to meet the demand.
According to him, there is a high demand for Pokhara elders. According to him, two thousand kilograms of Ram paddy and the rest are the seeds of the elderly Pokhara.
The metropolis buys paddy seeds from farmers at Rs 200 per kg and provides them at Rs 100 at 50 per cent subsidy. Kadariya said farmers in ward no 13, 23, 26, 29 and 30 among others have been producing seeds in the metropolis.
Kadariya said that the KMC has been bringing seeds of paddy produced through bio-resource conservation campaign and providing it to the farmers for the conservation of local paddy grains and yellow.
