NMB Bank to invest in 6.5 MW Darkhola hydropower project

Kathmandu. Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality has mobilized resources for the construction of 6.5 MW Darkhola Hydropower Project.

NMB TAG_OPEN_div_22 Bank is going to invest in the project which is estimated to cost Rs 1.30 billion.

According to Resham Bhandari, chairman of Darkhola Hydropower, the financial resource management agreement has been signed with 70 percent i.e. 910 million and internal capital of 390 million.TAG_OPEN_div_20 The proposed dam at Kunauta of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-3 and the power house to be constructed at the confluence of Myagdi and Darkhola of Solawang have been established. Road construction and expansion works are being carried out to make way for placing penstock pipes from Kunau towards the power house.

Bhandari shared that a 4-TAG_OPEN_div_18 km 500-metre long penstock pipeline would be installed to supply water to the power house. According to him, a 30-meter-long sand settling pond will be constructed at Kunauta.

According to Bhandari, the hydropower will build a seven-kilometer-long transmission line to connect the electricity to the national grid by diverting water from a height of 548 meters to the power house.TAG_OPEN_div_16

Project chief Upendra Ghimire said that feasibility study, preliminary environmental impact assessment, power purchase agreement, land purchase and financial resource management have been completed.TAG_OPEN_div_14 According to him, the selection of civil, hydro mechanical and electromechanical contractors for the run-of-the-river project is in the final stage.

The power purchase agreement was signed with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) in 2080 BS.TAG_OPEN_div_12 As per the agreement, electricity will be sold at Rs 8.40 per unit in winter and Rs 4.80 per unit in the rainy season. According to the project office, the project has set a target to generate electricity by mid-April 2084.
