Prime Minister’s Office directs to excavate rivers and minerals as per approved criteria

KATHMANDU: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has directed the ministries and governments concerned to carry out the extraction and extraction of river-based and mineral resources only in accordance with the approved criteria, environmental impact assessment and prevailing laws.
According to the directive issued by the office, its attention has been drawn to the complaints and information that excavation, collection, transportation and sale of river-based and mine-based materials including stones, pebbles, sand, soil and other river-based and mine-based materials are being carried out by the local level.TAG_OPEN_div_27
In accordance with the prevailing laws, standards and policy related to the protection of natural resources, the committee has been asked to discourage the excessive exploitation of river-based and mine-based resources in the development works and to make the excavation, collection, transportation and utilization works systematic, transparent and sustainable.
The Prime Minister’s Office has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Forest and Environment, Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, National Vigilance Centre, all the Chief Ministers and local levels requesting this TAG_OPEN_div_23 ।
In order to completely control the rampant excavation, illegal collection and unauthorized smuggling, regular patrolling mobilization, monitoring in the vulnerable areas in the presence of locals and immediate control of illegal excavation, collection and transportation have been directed by the police administration to immediately control illegal excavation, collection and smuggling.TAG_OPEN_div_21
It is stated that the excavation work will be conducted only in the rivers, rivulets, forest areas, arable land and settlements without causing environmental destruction and the local levels will make necessary arrangements to fix the excavation time from 6 am to 6 pm every day.TAG_OPEN_div_19

The Home Ministry has also been asked to submit a report to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in the first week of every month regarding the progress and problems made in this regard.TAG_OPEN_div_15
