Kathmandu. Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Sasmit Pokharel, has said that the student unions were scrapped as per their election commitments.

Talking to media persons at Singha Durbar today, Spokesperson Pokharel clarified that there was no need for further discussion on the issue of not keeping the student unions as the promissory note was discussed during the election period and the people have already endorsed the promissory note. “Local levels should be active to take action against those charging exorbitant fees”

Stating that complaints have been received that schools are charging more than the set criteria for admission or annual fees, he said that discussions were held with the office-bearers of the municipality association, the Federation of Rural Municipalities and representatives of the Valley Mayors Forum in this regard.

“We are ready if we need any help from the federal government for the implementation of the set standards and rules, but it is basically the responsibility of the local level. The regulatory body should work from its side,” Minister Pokharel said.
