Kathmandu. Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Geeta Chaudhary has directed the government to immediately stop providing free milk and ghee to the employees of the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC).

During the discussion held here today, he directed the government to stop the practice of providing free milk and ghee on a monthly basis as complaints have been received by the employees against the rule.

According to Minister Chaudhary’s secretariat, the corporation will save Rs 78 lakh annually after the implementation of the directive. “The corporation is in loss. Farmers are facing problems including payment, but it is not good for the employees to take milk and ghee worth millions of rupees for free every year. Therefore, let’s stop such activities immediately, we should work seriously for the welfare of the corporation,” Minister Chaudhary said during the directive.

According to the ministry, the amount saved by reducing the facilities of the employees will now be used to pay the dues of the farmers and increase the milk production.
