Govt warns civil servants not to do politics

Kathmandu. The government has warned that civil servants could be removed from service if they were involved in politics. Issuing a notice, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has directed the civil servants to fully comply with the provisions related to discipline and conduct to the civil servants.

According to the Constitution of Nepal and the Civil Service Act, the civil service should be politically neutral, impartial and accountable.

According to the Clause 61 (1) (e) of the Civil Service Act, 2049, the civil servants can be removed from the service without being disqualified for the government service in the future if they take part in politics.

According to the Ministry, employees involved in political activities, membership of organizations or candidates in elections can be removed from service. The Ministry has also stated that action will be taken as per the law if the civil servant is affiliated to any political party, sister organization of the political party, sister organization of the political party, sister organization of the political party or the membership of the organization by being affiliated to the political party, is involved in political activities or becomes a candidate for the election to the political post.
