Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The All Nepal Squatters’ Association, close to the Communist Party of Nepal, has decided to launch protest against the government’s move to vacate the squatters and unsystematic settlements.

Organizing a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday, the Association said that it will launch protest against the forced agitation and bulldozer campaign being carried out on the Guthi and Birta victims. Speaking at the press meet, Amar Pariyar, president of the association, said that bulldozers have been used on the squatters’ settlement in Kohalpur despite the court’s interim order not to vacate the squatters.

He condemned the government’s act of attacking the Supreme Court’s order. He said that not only the government but the Nepal Army itself has interfered in the dispute and will fight against it. He added that further agitation programmes would be launched from May 14 giving continuity to the agitation programmes announced by the same Association on April 11.

He also urged transport entrepreneurs and the general public to support the protest by not allowing vehicles to operate from 6:00 am to 10:00 am on May 14. He also accused the government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah of trying to rule the country through ordinance, dragging the Nepal Army into controversy and weakening the dignity of the President and Parliament.

He also demanded that the Prime Minister and the leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) recall Shah through the recall of the ruling party Rastriya Swatantra Party.
