Kathmandu. The Office of the Auditor General has directed the authorities concerned to carry out the construction and conservation works of archaeological heritages and ancient monuments by harmonizing the policy, law, standards and regulations regarding them. This directive has been mentioned in the 63rd report released by the office.

Clause 3 (d) of the Ancient Monuments Preservation Act, 2013 states that the Department of Archaeology shall protect the ancient monuments and archaeological sites. Clause (2) and (3) of sub-section 2 (f) of Section 11 of the Local Government Operation Act, 2074 BS has included the protection, maintenance, promotion, development of archaeology, ancient monuments and museums and the operation and management of traditional festivals and festivals under the responsibilities, duties and powers of the local level level.

The report states that both the local level and the department are spending money for the construction and conservation of heritages including temples and shrines. This can lead to duplication in the selection and implementation of the plan. The Office of the Auditor General has drawn the attention of the Department towards the increase in the cost of travel expenses while inspecting and monitoring the construction of heritages located in remote areas.
