Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Poudel has said that change in the political system and governance structure alone would not meet the expectations of the era.
Addressing a special function organised at the Army Pavilion on the occasion of the Republic Day today, he said that change in character, conduct, political integrity and values of the state was necessary for that. “Otherwise, actions will not justify political change,” he said.
He stressed on the need of being united with a change in political integrity, norms and conduct to save the dignity of the republic and make it more prosperous. “It has its own values and moral scope, which we cannot fulfill the responsibility of history by forgetting them,” he said.
He expressed the belief that the present day would inspire all to move ahead in the highest and meaningful practice of the federal democratic republic for social justice, development and prosperity as well as to link politics, state and affairs as per the border of morality, integrity and norms.
Stating that a government with a strong mandate was formed after the successful conclusion of the House of Representatives election after the adverse situation in the country, President Poudel said that the government decided to take forward good governance for prosperity, improvement in public service delivery, economic revival, zero tolerance against corruption and social progress as its basic guidelines.
He expressed the belief that the government’s decision to carry out structural and legal reforms for borderless economy and weightless trade by fully implementing the hundred agendas of governance reforms would raise hope among the people.
Stating that dilly-dally, irregularities and irregularities were the main enemies, the President stressed the need to pay attention to ensure that the people carrying the beautiful dream of a democratic republic would not be disappointed by these malpractices. The President said, “Until and until the lamp of hope is lit in the life of every citizen, the goal of federal democratic republic that we have exchanged with our blood and sweat will not be fulfilled.”
Stating that the citizens are in the pursuit of prosperity with good governance, he said that it was necessary to optimally utilize our resources for the same. “We can connect governance system with the life of citizens through economic development and prosperity, this is our historic responsibility for today,” he said.
Stating that political achievements alone were not enough to connect change with the lives of citizens, the President stressed the need to change the character of the politicians, party and leaders along with the character of the government. “We should not delay in making our politics, our style of governance, political parties and people’s representatives’ institutions fully democratic, fair, competitive, just and effective to realize the meaning of republican excellence,” he said.
President Poudel stressed the need to make efforts with full dedication and humility to consolidate the achievements made so far. He was of the view that economic and social prosperity along with social justice should be ensured on the foundation of political rights.
“Our political parties, our government and our leadership should be creative, humble and accountable to the people, virtuous and conducted,” he said.
Stating that the local and provincial governments were discharging their responsibilities as per the constitution, President Poudel said that the exercise of sovereignty was taking place from the people’s doorsteps in the governance system. “Liberal and advanced democratic practices are underway that the citizens can address their grievances through the governance structures, which would strengthen the foundation of democracy,” he said.
