Kathmandu. The World Environment Day 2026 is being observed across the country today. The week-long celebration is being organised with the slogan ‘Basis for a Prosperous Future: Climate and Nature-Friendly Development’.
The Department of Environment is organizing a special program in Lalitpur on the occasion. Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment Gita Chaudhary is scheduled to grace the event as the chief guest. According to the Department of Environment, various government agencies, development partners, environmentalists and stakeholders will be present in the program.
Director General of the Department Gyan Raj Subedi said the World Environment Day is being celebrated to raise public awareness on the importance of environment protection, facing the challenges of climate change and nature-friendly development. On the occasion of the World Environment Day, various public awareness programmes and programmes related to environmental protection would be conducted throughout the country, the Department said.
