Bank employees’ woes enter parliament, lawmaker Sajida demands NRB to resolve problems

. CPN-UML lawmaker Sajida Khatun Siddiqui has drawn the attention of the government and Nepal Rastra Bank towards the problems faced by the employees in the banking sector. She also demanded that the government hold talks between the government, Nepal Rastra Bank and the chief executive officer of the bank to resolve the problems of the bank’s staffers.

Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, lawmaker Siddiqui said that the government should take necessary decision to resolve the labor-related problems seen in the banking sector.TAG_OPEN_div_14 She said that bank employees work overtime, do not get enough leave, pay and perks are relatively low, and working late into the night, especially women employees.

Stating that it was the responsibility of all bodies to protect the fundamental right to live with dignity guaranteed by the constitution, she said that the bodies concerned should pay serious attention to improve the condition of the employees working in the banking sector.TAG_OPEN_div_12

Lawmaker Siddiqui said that the situation of bank employees being forced to commit suicide is a matter of concern and the government and regulatory bodies should take initiative to find a solution to this problem.TAG_OPEN_div_10

She urged the NRB, the government and the CEOs of the banks to hold discussions at the earliest to find a concrete solution to protect the rights and interests of the workers in the banking sector, improve the working environment and reduce the occupational stress.TAG_OPEN_div_8
