Kathmandu. The Kathmandu District Police Range has taken action against 1,410 people in a sweep operation carried out in May.
Superintendent of Police at the Range, Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, said that 199 women, 1,218 men and three others were arrested and action was taken against them.
The sweep operation was launched by the Kathmandu Police to control crime and maintain peace and order in the society. During the period, 21 women from Uganda, Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh and Kenya were arrested and deported from Thamel area of Kathmandu for indecent acts.
A total of 1,160 cases, including 257 related to heinous and serious crimes, 51 related to women, children and senior citizens, 494 economic offences and 358 others were registered in May. One case related to money laundering is being investigated while cases related to hundi have been filed with Rs 2 million 75,500 big.
During the period, 1,004 accused including 122 women and 882 men were arrested.
A total of 434 programs including 309 sit-ins, 77 protest programs, six torch rallies, four rallies and three corner meetings were organized in the month of May. More than 10,000 police personnel were mobilized to manage these programs.
KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Police have confiscated green peas, coal, spectacles, biscuits, mobile phones and energy drinks worth Rs 2.399 lakh through tax evasion and customs evasion.
During this period, four people were arrested with two guns and 46 rounds of bullets. A total of 67,949 police personnel were mobilized under mobile, checking, foot and motorcycle patrolling, duty monitoring and SRP for maintaining law and order.
