Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The National Statistics Office (NSO) has urged industrialists, businesses and service sectors who have not been able to participate in the National Economic Census 2082 to be included in the census.

Issuing an appeal, the office has said that the participation of all business establishments is necessary to present a realistic picture of the overall economic situation of the country.

According to the office, data collection is being carried out nationwide from April 15 to June 20 for the economic census. The office has collected details from more than 12,18,000 institutions through 3,606 enumerators.

Stating that some industries, businesses and service-providing organizations might have missed out on the census, the Office has requested them to contact the concerned District Economic Census Office or the National Statistics Office toll-free number 1178.

According to the office, the Economic Census is an important national campaign to collect basic data on all economic activities of the country. The new report will provide details about number of industries, trade, business, service sector, cooperatives, private and public institutions operating throughout the country, nature of investment, employment status, production and service delivery.

The statistics obtained by the Office said it would help make the estimates of country’s economic structure and Gross Domestic Product more realistic. The data collected from the census would be useful for short-term and long-term economic planning, policy formulation, investment promotion, employment generation and balanced development.

Expressing gratitude for the active participation of entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs and organizations in the appeal, it has stated that all the details provided in the census would be kept confidential as per the Statistics Act, 2079.
