Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung held a special meeting with chiefs of security bodies at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) today.
Expressing his dissatisfaction over the traditional working style of the past, Home Minister Gurung said, “We always involve in rescue and relief operations only after the disaster. It is now necessary to correct this trend and remain alert and prepared before disaster strikes. ’
Helicopter Ride and Prevent Misuse of State Treasury:
Stating that helicopters were misused in the name of inspecting flood-affected areas during the regime of the erstwhile governments, Home Minister Gurung directed the incumbent government not to make unnecessary visits to the state and confiscate the state property. Home Minister Gurung himself has announced that he will not fly a helicopter,” he said, adding, “I will not misuse the state property by flying a helicopter.” ’
He said that no one except the rescue and security personnel would be allowed to board helicopters in the pretext of disaster.
Zero human casualties:
Directing the people concerned to be prepared in high flood and landslide prone areas of the country in advance, he said, “No one should lose their life in a disaster if all bodies worked as an integrated team.” I don’t want to hear about the death of anyone due to a disaster. ’
The high-level meeting was attended by chiefs of all three security agencies as well as senior officials and employees working in the disaster risk reduction sector.
