Efforts to increase cooperation between Spanish investors and Nepali private sector

Kathmandu. The ‘Nepal-Spain Business Forum-2026’ held in Madrid, the capital of Spain, on Monday, emphasized the need to increase cooperation between the Spanish investors and businessmen, the government and the private sector.

The forum, organized by the Embassy of Nepal in Madrid, aimed at bridging the gap between Spanish investors and businessmen and Nepal’s government and private sectors to expand trade and investment cooperation. The program was attended by government officials from Nepal and Spain and representatives of the business community.

Welcoming the participants in the inaugural session, Charge d’ Affaires of Nepal to Spain Purak Adhikari said that the event was organized with the objective of further strengthening the trade relations between Nepal and Spain and expanding the partnership in the areas where there is high potential for cooperation. He also introduced the intergenerational Nepali industries based on ethically sourced raw materials and indigenous technology.

Executive Director of Nepal Trade and Export Promotion Center, Nabin Raj Sharma, presented statistics on Nepal-Spain textile trade and informed about the possibilities of Nepali textile products in Spanish market. He also showcased a variety of Nepali textiles and readymade garments that can attract Spanish consumers.

President of the Federation of Nepalese Export Entrepreneurs, Govinda Ghimire and Vice-President Devnanda Sarawagi presented the history and structure of Nepal-Spain trade and highlighted the competitive characteristics of Nepali textiles and jewelry made from natural fibers such as mountain goat wool, mountain sheep wool, hemp and Sisno. They said that there is increasing attraction towards handcrafted silver jewelry, japa mala and traditional jewelry in the international specialty market.

Pashupati Dev Pandey, president of Nepal Garment Association, said that the Nepali garment industry has made remarkable progress in recent years due to the legal and policy reforms. He underscored the need for continuous collaboration between the business communities of both the countries.

Luis Rodríguez, deputy director of international relations at the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry, highlighted the dynamics of Spain’s jewelry and fashion industry, adding that Spanish consumers are increasingly attracted to specific international products. He expressed the belief that Nepal-Spain trade relations would be further strengthened with the expansion of business and business partnership.

The event was attended by representatives of the Spanish apparel and jewelry industry, investment promotion agencies, government officials and the Spanish media.
