Bharatpur. Chitwan-based Successful Social Entrepreneur Women Cooperative has launched a turmeric brand called ‘Chandra Surya’.
The brand aims to empower women-led enterprises, add value to agricultural products and create sustainable market opportunities for smallholder farmers.
‘Chandrasurya’ turmeric is the result of the collective efforts of successful social entrepreneurs, women entrepreneurs and farmers associated with women cooperatives. According to the cooperative, the aim is to provide high quality turmeric to the consumers through the brand, increase the income of local producers and expand market access.
According to the cooperative, the ‘Chandra Surya’ brand is expected to strengthen the local agriculture value chain of Nepal and contribute to the production and marketing of quality Nepali agricultural products.
Heifer Nepal has been continuously supporting women-led entrepreneurs and cooperatives to improve the livelihoods of small farmers. With the launch of the ‘Chandra Surya’ brand, women-led cooperatives are expected to actively contribute to the higher value realization of the agricultural economy along with production.
Heifer Nepal’s National Director, Dr. Mr. Tirtha Raj Regmi said, “The launch of Moon Surya has highlighted the leadership and entrepreneurial spirit of women farmers and cooperative members. This has the potential to create sustainable economic opportunities for rural communities through collective efforts and effective access to markets. ’
Chief Minister of Bagmati state, Indra Bahadur Baniya said, “The inauguration of the Moon Sun is an inspiring example that women-led cooperatives can contribute significantly to the development of local economy through entrepreneurship and value addition.” When farmers go beyond production and build their own brands, they can get more out of their produce. They create new opportunities for the community. The Bagmati Province government has always been committed to developing rural enterprises, promoting local production, and empowering women’s leadership in economic transformation. ”
Minister for Cooperatives of Bagmati Province Binu Rayamajhi said that Chandra Surya is an example of the joint production of farmers, cooperatives, development partners and private sector. “By investing in value addition and market access, we can build enterprises that will benefit the agricultural community in the long run,” she said.
