Kathmandu. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment is preparing to import around 210,000 metric tonnes of chemical fertiliser within mid-July.

The Ministry has initiated the process of importing fertiliser through various means to ensure supply of additional fertilizer to the farmers.

According to the ministry, 30,000 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer is being imported from India under the government-to-government agreement. The fertiliser is expected to arrive in Nepal from mid-June to mid-July.

As per the agreement signed with India through G2G, 50,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser will be supplied to Nepal in the first phase in the second week of July.

Likewise, 1.80 lakh metric tonnes of chemical fertiliser will be imported through international tender. Out of this, 60,000 metric tonnes of DAP and 1,20,000 metric tonnes of urea have been imported. According to the Ministry, these fertilizers are expected to arrive in Nepal by the third week of July.

The 30,000 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer which is in the process of loading in Oman is expected to arrive in Kolkata by the end of June and will arrive in Nepal by the second week of July.

Similarly, 30,000 metric tons of DAP has already reached Visakhapatnam Port after crossing the Hormuz and will arrive in Nepal from July 2 to 20, according to Salt Trading Corporation Limited.

Similarly, 30,000 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer has already been loaded on ships and will arrive in Nepal by mid-July via Kolkata port by mid-July.

Similarly, 30,000 metric tonnes of urea fertilizer has been shipped from Qatar and it is expected to arrive in Kolkata by the third week of June.

According to the agriculture company, 30,000 metric tonnes of urea has been loaded from Saudi Arabia and is expected to arrive in Kolkata by the last week of June.

Similarly, 30,000 metric tons of DAP fertilizer will be loaded from Vietnam and will arrive in Kolkata by the second week of June and enter Nepal by the third week of July.

Although the availability of fertiliser in the international market has decreased due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the Ministry is working to supply fertilizer to provide relief to the farmers.

The ministry has set a target to import chemical fertilizers this year, the highest ever compared to the previous years. The ministry has set a target to provide around 6 lakh metric tonnes of chemical fertilizers to farmers in the current fiscal year.

Likewise, the Ministry has directed the government to mandatorily update the details related to the online system to make the fertilizer distribution system more systematic, transparent and effective.

The Ministry has made arrangements to register the complaint through hotline number 9700099113 and QR code from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm to complain about black marketing or irregularities in chemical fertilizers at the local level.
