ASI BK death case: Ex-lawmaker Mahato sentenced to five years in jail, three sentenced to life imprisonment

Janakpurdham. The Janakpur High Court has sentenced six persons, including former lawmaker Laxmi Mahato Koiri and suspended Madhes Province Assembly member Abhiram Sharma, in the death of Assistant Sub Inspector of Police Thaman BK.

A division bench of Acting Chief Judge Tek Narayan Kunwar and Justice Murari Babu Shrestha handed down the five-year jail term to former lawmaker Mahato, suspended SA member Sharma, Dharmendra Raya, Ram Shankar Mishra, Suresh Pandey and Pawan Kapar in the case of death of ASI BK.TAG_OPEN_div_18

Similarly, the Janakpur High Court sentenced Pradip Sah Majhi, Sanjay Kumar Sah and Mohan Thakur to life imprisonment as per the charge of murder (1) of the then Civil Code, according to the court’s information officer Ganesh Pandey.TAG_OPEN_div_16

The Mahottari District Court on December 11, 2003 had sentenced the three to life imprisonment and acquitted former lawmakers Mahato and Pawan Kapar.TAG_OPEN_div_14 Information Officer Pandey said that the Mahottari District Court upheld the verdict on life imprisonment in the case of all three convicts.

According to the High Court’s verdict, an FIR has been filed against the three defendants Pradeep Sah Majhi, Sanjay Kumar Sah and Mohan Thakur for the death of the deceased Thaman BK, while the three have confessed to the charge and the ambulance driver Sushil Mishra along with Pappu Kumar Sah, Siyaram Paswan and Raj Kumar Jha have confirmed their involvement before the investigating officer TAG_OPEN_div_12 ।

According to the court order, the defendant Sanjay Kumar Sah had attacked Thaman BK from the photographs of the incident site.TAG_OPEN_div_10 Likewise, in the case of former lawmaker Mahato, suspended state assembly members Sharma, Dharmendra Raya, Ram Shankar Mishra, Suresh Pandey and Pawan Kapar, there was no objective evidence of attacking Kathan BK. ASI BK, who had come to Mahottari on September 9, 2015 in course of the Madhes movement, was beaten to death by the agitators.
