Demand for DAP fertilizer increases in Palpa, consumption of urea decreases

Palpa. The demand for DAP fertilizer is increasing every year in Palpa. Looking at the data of the last three fiscal years, the demand for DAP fertilizer is increasing in the district while the consumption of urea fertilizer is gradually decreasing.

According to Srijana Pandey, branch manager of Agriculture Inputs Company Limited, Palpa, there was a demand for 2,000 metric tonnes of urea in the fiscal year 2080/81.TAG_OPEN_div_28 Of this, 1,291.95 metric tonnes was consumed.

In the same year, 600 metric tons of DAP was demanded but 637.70 metric tons were consumed, he said.TAG_OPEN_div_26 Of the 125 metric tons of potash ordered, 92.65 metric tons were consumed.

In the fiscal year 2081/82, the demand for urea remained 2,000 metric tons, but the consumption has decreased to 1,186 metric tons, according to the data.TAG_OPEN_div_24 Out of 600 metric tonne demand for DAP, 637 metric tons was consumed while only 92 metric tons out of 150 metric tons potash was consumed.

Out of the demand for 150 metric tonne potash, 110 metric tons have been received and 83 metric tonnes has been consumed. According to Pandey, farmers’ attraction towards DAP fertilizer has increased in recent years as it is used in the initial phase of paddy plantation.

He said that since urea is used in the growth phase of the crop, its demand and consumption are at different times.TAG_OPEN_div_18 Pandey said that excessive use of urea is also decreasing with the increasing awareness among farmers about the use of balanced fertilizer.

Due to the high use of green manure especially in the Mandi field, urea fertilizer is less used in rice crops like elsewhere. They have been sowing here since time immemorial. Chhabi Thapa, a farmer of Rupse, said that they do not use urea fertilizer for paddy crops in their area as it not only makes the soil haldy but also increases the yield. The cooperatives listed in all the ten local levels in the district have been supplying fertiliser and selling it to the farmers at the recommendation of the local level.
