Man arrested for trading crypto worth more than Rs 1.48 crore

. KATHMANDU: Nepal Police have arrested a person on the charge of transacting cryptocurrency worth over Rs 14.8 million.

A team from the District Police Range, Kathmandu arrested Mukesh Prajapati, 25, of Madhyapur Thimi-5, Bhaktapur on the charge of cheating people by luring people through social networking sites and exchanging the amount in non-physical currency.TAG_OPEN_div_10

Superintendent of Police (SP) Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, Spokesperson of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, said that Prajapati has been involved in transactions worth Rs 14,TAG_OPEN_div_8 876,527.46 so far.

Spokesperson Bhattarai said that Prajapati was found to have 7,485 US dollars (about 11,TAG_OPEN_div_6 41,9830 Nepali rupees) in various digital accounts. He has been remanded in custody for five days by the District Court Kathmandu for further investigation, said police. Cryptocurrency trading is illegal in Nepal.
