The match was pushed to extra time after both teams failed to score for 90 minutes at the New Jersey Stadium in New York.

Ferran Torres scored the only goal of the match in extra time. He scored in the 106th minute to give Argentina a 1-0 lead. After that, there were no more goals in the match and Spain won by one goal over Argentina.

Argentina were reduced to 10 men after Enzo Fernandez received a second yellow card in the regular 90th minute. Spain took advantage of this and scored a goal.

Argentina defeated England 2-1 in the semi-finals to reach the World Cup final. Spain defeated France 2-0 to reach the final.
