Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav has called on the industrialists and entrepreneurs to adopt the Nepal Standard (NS) mark with the objective of promoting domestic products, ensuring quality goods to consumers and reducing dependence on foreign imports.

During the meeting with Director General of Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology Kumari Jyoti Joshi and other officials at the Ministry today, Minister Yadav stressed on expanding the scope of Nepal Standard mark to ensure the quality of goods produced in Nepal.

She stressed on the need for Nepal Standard Mark to ensure easy sale and distribution of goods produced in Nepal in the domestic market and to increase trust among consumers. For this, the government has decided to provide necessary incentives to entrepreneurs and make the process of obtaining the quality mark easier.

Minister Yadav said that the Ministry would facilitate in all the necessary processes for exporting and selling goods that have been certified in the Nepal Standard in the international market.

So far, cement, rods, tyres and other industrial products have achieved the Nepal Standard mark. Lately, sanitary pads produced in Nepal have also received Nepal Standard mark. However, the Ministry has urged the industries and companies to complete the necessary process on time as many industries and companies are yet to get the Nepal Standard Certification.

According to the Ministry, the use of Nepal Standard mark is expected to increase consumers’ confidence towards domestic products and play an important role in establishing the Nepali brand in the national and international market. The ministry believes that this will reduce dependence on foreign imports and encourage domestic industries and production.
