Kathmandu. The Division has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in some places of the country in the next three days.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places of the hilly region and one or two places of Terai of Lumbini Province today. The Department has predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places of the hilly region of Karnali Province and Lumbini Province.

In the past 24 hours, moderate rainfall occurred in most parts of the country while some places received heavy to very heavy rainfall, said Department Spokesperson Bibhuti Pokharel.

Heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places of mountainous, hilly and terai regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and at one or two places of hilly and terai regions of Lumbini province tonight. Likewise, very heavy rain is likely to occur at some places of mountainous and hilly region of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

On Tuesday, there are chances of heavy rainfall at one or two places of mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and at one or two places of Madhes provinces.

Heavy rainfall has been forecast in the mountainous and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces and at one or two places of hilly and terai of Lumbini province on Wednesday. The Department has urged the people living in risk-prone areas especially marked with orange color to adopt precaution as rainfall activity is likely to increase in the next three days.

The Department has urged one and all to stay alert as the water level in the small rivers and rivulets flowing in various districts of the country including the Kathmandu Valley is likely to rise significantly, indicating the risk of flash flood.

According to the Department’s Flood Forecasting Division, the water level in the small rivers and rivulets flowing through Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Kavrepalanchowk is likely to increase significantly, causing high risk of flash flood.

Similarly, water level in the small rivers flowing through Taplejung, Jhapa, Dhankuta, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Udayapur, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Makawanpur, Gorkha, Lamjung, Tanahun, Kaski, Parbat, Myagdi, Syangja, Palpa, Gulmi, Chitwan, Nawalparasi (east) and Nawalparasi (west) and surrounding districts is likely to rise significantly and there is a moderate risk of flash floods.

The Department has urged the people living near riverine settlements, low-lying areas and rivulets in high-risk areas to adopt special alertness. The Department has also urged all to be ready to go to safe places if necessary and to follow the information and pre-notification issued by the local administration and concerned bodies regularly.

Likewise, the Department has urged the people not to move unnecessarily along the river banks, take precaution while travelling and stay safe by getting updated information about the possible risks as the water level in the rivers and rivulets may rise in the districts that are at medium risk.
