Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has refused to accept Rs 20 million allocated by the government for the renovation and preservation of the historic Koirala residence in Biratnagar.
The historic house was burnt down during the Genji protests on September 23 and 24.
Dr. In a letter to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Koirala clarified that the government could not accept the budget allocated for the repair and maintenance of Koirala’s residence in the fiscal year 2083/84.
He urged the government to return the amount allocated for Koirala’s residence, saying the available resources should be utilized for the welfare of the people at a time when the state has limited resources and a large number of citizens are facing scarcity and difficulties.
The letter states that the Koirala residence at Koshi Hospital Chowk in Biratnagar Metropolitan City-7 was built by his father Krishna Prasad Koirala a century ago. The house was known as Koirala Niwas.
Dr. According to Koirala, Krishna Prasad Koirala had started the campaign of social transformation through educational awareness a century ago. “The support, dedication and support of the Koirala family is very important in the political struggle led by BP Koirala,” he said.
He said the Koirala residence was not only the private home of the Koirala family but also the centre of trust of the general Nepali people. Koirala’s official residence is familiar throughout the country today as the pillar of collective consciousness, ideation, organization, symbol of independence and nationality.
“BP struggled throughout his life for food, shelter and cotton for all Nepalis,” he said. Koirala has also said that the state should pay true tribute to BP and do justice to Koirala’s residence.
The government had allocated Rs 20 million for the renovation and conservation of Koirala Niwas in the budget of fiscal year 2083/84. Dr. Koirala urged the government to return the amount and use it for the welfare of the citizens lacking limited resources of the state.
