Kathmandu. A grant of Rs 55 million has been provided in all the 13 local levels of Kailali district under the Special Pocket Area Development Programme under the ‘One Local Level, Two Production Campaign’. According to the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre, 373 farmers in the district have been benefited from the programme.

Centre’s chief Chandra Kanta Panta said the special pocket area development programme has been launched with the objective of increasing income by facilitating the farmers to run their business at the local level and connecting more farmers to production.

According to Panta, the grants were provided through farms, groups and cooperatives for goats, buffaloes, pigs and fisheries. Under the programme, 67 goat farms of Chure rural municipality were provided Rs 4 million, 10 goat farms of Mohanyal rural municipality, three groups and one cooperative were provided Rs 4 million, 22 goat farms of Gauriganga municipality were provided Rs 4 million and 20 goat farms of the same municipality were provided Rs 4 million.

Similarly, four pig farms of Ghodaghodi municipality were provided Rs 4 million, 13 buffalo farms of Lamkichuha municipality were provided Rs 5 million, seven buffalo farms of Tikapur municipality were provided Rs 5 million, three buffalo farms of Janaki rural municipality were provided Rs 4 million, four buffalo farms of Bhajani municipality were provided Rs 4 million and 22 buffalo farms of Dhangadhi sub-metropolis were provided Rs 5 million.

Three fish farms of Bardagoriya rural municipality were provided Rs 4 million, three goat farms of Joshipur rural municipality were provided Rs 4 million and two pig farms, two groups and a cooperative of Kailari rural municipality were provided Rs 4 million.

Under the ‘one local level, two production’ campaign, one program would be run through the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Expert Centre while another programme would be operated through Agriculture Knowledge Centre, said Panta.

Likewise, the office has provided Rs 178,000 each to 21 groups for goat and pig rearing with the objective of improving income income targeting single women, bonded labourers, marginalized community, people with disabilities and the indigent group.

A total of Rs 950,000 has been provided for further management of three cowsheds in Kailali under the community livestock management. Likewise, 551 farmers of the district have been provided with Rs 2,700 as incentive amounting to Rs 1.487 million.

It is expected that this will help increase the production and income of farmers along with the expansion of animal husbandry and fisheries business at the local level.
