{{TAG_OPEN_div_34} Kathmandu. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case at the Special Court against 990 defendants in the fiscal year 2082/83 demanding a fine of Rs 25.23 billion in addition to the jail sentence and fine.
In the last fiscal year, 175 cases were filed at the Special Court on various corruption-related offenses, said EC Spokesperson Suresh Neupane at a press conference organized today. According to him, the highest number of 56 cases were related to public loss during this period.TAG_OPEN_div_32
Of them, 41 cases are related to bribery, 27 to illegal gain or loss, 15 to fake/fake academic certificates, 11 to acquisition of illegal property, five each to revenue leakage/embezzlement, five to money laundering and 15 related to other offenses.TAG_OPEN_div_30
Out of the total complaints registered in the last fiscal year, the highest number of complaints related to the local level on the basis of hierarchy are 20,000. According to the commission, 15,512 complaints related to the federal government and the lowest 5,305 complaints related to the province have been registered.
According to the annual report, six provinces have the highest number of complaints related to local level bodies or officials, while Bagmati Province has the highest number of complaints related to federal bodies or officials. The overall number of complaints is highest in Bagmati Province and the lowest in Gandaki Province.TAG_OPEN_div_26
Out of the total 5,305 complaints registered in the fiscal year 2082/83, the highest number of complaints (1,TAG_OPEN_div_24 475) were related to Madhes Province and the lowest 407 were related to Gandaki Province.
Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces have the highest number of complaints related to forest and environment, while Madhes province has the highest number of complaints related to physical infrastructure and transport.TAG_OPEN_div_22
Out of the total 20,TAG_OPEN_div_20 025 complaints registered in this period, the highest number of 7,370 complaints are related to the local levels of Madhes Province and the lowest 1,406 complaints are related to the local levels of Gandaki Province.
Among the complaints related to the federal government, the highest number of complaints are related to the former Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation. The previous ministries with the highest number of complaints are the Ministry of Education and Sports, Home Affairs, Infrastructure Development, Finance, Health and Food Sanitation, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Agriculture, Forest and Environment and Information and Communications, respectively.
