Himalayan Green Energy Expo to be held: From B2B to Green Energy Conference, more than a dozen countries will participate

Kathmandu. The ‘Himalayan Green Energy Expo 2027’ is going to be organized with a focus on expanding Nepal’s energy production capacity, developing clean energy technology, promoting investment and building climate-resilient energy infrastructure.

The expo will be held in Kathmandu from January 17-5, 2083 in collaboration with Independent Power Producers’ Association of Nepal (IPPAN) and Events Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

This is the fifth edition of the expo to be held with the slogan ‘Sustainable Energy, Prosperous Nepal’. Earlier, it was held in 2017, 2018, 2022 and 2024.

Mohan Dangi, President of IPPAN, said that the expo is going to be transformed from traditional hydropower oriented to an integrated green energy market that includes solar, wind, biogas and biomass, waste to energy, energy storage, green hydrogen, electric vehicles, smart grids, digital energy, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and climate technology.

The expo is being organized at a time when Nepal’s power generation capacity has reached around 4,300 megawatts and the government has set a target to increase the capacity to 30,000 megawatts in the next 10 years.

According to the organizers, this goal is not limited to meeting the domestic electricity demand. This goal is also linked to industrial development, expansion of electric vehicles, development of renewable energy and expansion of inter-country power trade with India and Bangladesh.

At present, about 4,300 MW of projects have been completed in the national transmission system. According to the organizers, the share of the private sector in the completed projects is more than 80 percent. Similarly, projects with a capacity of 6,400 MW are under construction while projects of more than 17,000 MW capacity are preparing to be constructed after completing the study and applying for Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Dangi said that along with the expansion of generation capacity, there is a need for expansion of transmission and distribution infrastructure, increase in power consumption, industrial electrification, electric vehicles, energy storage and expansion of inter-country electricity trade. Addressing this need, the expo is being developed as a common platform for investment, technology, market, policy and partnership.

Emphasis on Climate Risk and Resilient Infrastructure

At a time when Nepal’s energy sector is rapidly expanding, the issue of climate change and increasing risk of climate-related disasters will be given priority in the expo.

Floods and landslides in Ilam, Sankhuwasabha and Lamjung among other places in recent years and the recent floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river basins have damaged the infrastructure of the power projects, the organizers pointed out.

The expo will discuss and share experiences on climate-resilient infrastructure, risk mitigation, new technology, investment and innovation. According to the organizers, emphasis will be laid not only on increasing production capacity but also on building secure, sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure that can withstand the effects of climate change.

The Himalayan Green Energy Expo 2027 aims to shift Nepal’s energy sector from only hydropower to a comprehensive clean energy system.

Products and technologies in the field of solar, wind, biogas and biomass, waste to energy generation, energy storage, green hydrogen, electric vehicles, smart grids, digital energy, AI, IoT and climate technology will be showcased in the expo.

It aims to expand business contacts and collaboration among power producers, project developers, investors, banks and financial institutions, insurance companies, technology providers, equipment manufacturers, engineering and construction companies, policy makers, regulatory agencies, universities, research institutions, start-ups and development partners.

It is also expected to bring in new technology and investment in Nepal through the participation of international companies and delegations, connect Nepali companies to the international market and create opportunities to develop Nepal’s clean energy sector as a hub of regional investment, dialogue and innovation.

From B2B to Green Energy Conference

Various commercial and knowledge-oriented programs will also be organized during the expo. According to the organizers, B2B Business Meeting, Himalayan Green Energy Conference, International Country Pavilion, Green Energy Knowledge Hub, site visit, live technology demonstration, startup hub, competition on energy production and services, hydro-con show, EV rally and gala networking dinner will be the major attractions of the expo.

Turbine, generator, solar PV system, inverter, battery and energy storage system, transformer, switchgear, transmission and distribution technology, grid technology, automation and smart energy solutions will be showcased in the expo.

New concepts related to energy sector developed by students and innovators and competition among goods and services will also be included in the expo.

Participation of companies and representatives from different countries

Participants from India, China, Canada, Norway, South Korea, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Italy, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Brazil, among others will participate in the expo.

Participants from the government and regulatory bodies, national and international investors, banks and financial institutions, insurance companies, project developers, technology and equipment manufacturers, importers, distributors, consultants, contractors, universities, research institutes, diplomatic missions, media and experts from the energy sector will participate in the event.

IPPAN is organizing the expo on the occasion of its foundation day. Established on January 17, 2001 with the objective of institutionalizing the energy production and investment of the private sector, IPPAN has been taking initiatives for the expansion of energy production, creating investment-friendly environment, policy reforms and cooperation between the government and the private sector.

As the government has set a target of producing 30,000 megawatts of electricity within 10 years, the expo aims to bring investors, policy makers, experts, government representatives, equipment and machine manufacturers, suppliers and private sector representatives on a single platform by utilizing the rapid changes in technology.

IPPAN has also set a target to regularize the annual energy event on January 13, 4 and 5 every year on the occasion of its establishment day.

More than 100 stalls, expecting more than 30,000 visitors

According to the organizers, there will be more than 100 exhibition stalls in the expo. More than 30,000 visitors are expected to participate in the three-day expo.

Along with the exhibition, various programs connecting knowledge, technology, investment and business contacts will be held. According to the organizers, the concept of ‘integrated green energy market’ has been put at the center of the expo along with the expansion of energy production, revitalization, investment and innovation.

According to IPPAN, the expo is an effort to bring together the entire value chain from energy production, investment, finance, technology, construction, equipment, services, research, and policy discourses, to a single platform, as a large annual event focused on the private sector for the development and expansion of Nepal’s energy sector.

According to the organizers, the expo will help in expanding investment, technology and partnerships in the journey towards achieving the target of 30,000 MW of electricity produced by the national sector and in building a secure, sustainable and resilient energy sector that can withstand the climate risks.

Participation in the expo and stall bookings have been opened. For more information regarding stall booking and participation, the organizers have requested to contact IPPAN Secretariat and Expo Manager Events Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
