Gandaki. Pokhara Metropolitan City has once again urged the concerned individuals and organizations to remove all the structures constructed within a week.

Issuing a public notice for the last time on Monday, the metropolis said that if the structures are not removed within the stipulated timeframe, the metropolis itself will remove the structures as per the prevailing law and the expenses will be recovered from the concerned parties.

Earlier, the KMC had issued a public notice on August 4 directing the authorities to remove the structures by August 2.

Although some big structures that started from Andherikuna of Pokhara-18 and went through wards 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 17 to Gaighat of Ward No. 6 and merge into the Fewa Lake, the KMC had removed some of the big structures by using dozers on its own.

Stating that its attention has been drawn towards the removal of the structures as per the verbal commitment, the metropolis has been repeatedly pressuring to remove the structures as promised. The metropolis has objected to the fact that the structures have not been removed as promised so far despite providing time.

The metropolis has a plan to construct the Firke Khola corridor with footpaths and cycle lanes by removing the physical structures constructed by encroaching on the area of Firkekhola. The metropolis has also urged all to join hands in the campaign of building an environment and eco-friendly Pokhara by conserving and developing Firkekhola.

Conservationists have been expressing concern over increasing encroachment, pollution, lack of management of garbage, unplanned urbanization and carelessness in regulation have posed a threat to the natural character and very existence of the river.
