KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a show-cause order on a writ petition filed by Hitendra Dev Shakya, the then executive director of Nepal Electricity Authority, seeking reinstatement of him to his previous post. A single bench of Justice Kumar Regmi on Wednesday issued a show-cause order in the name of the defendants and summoned both the parties for an interim order.

Shakya was appointed as the Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority on March 11, 2081. However, after the government removed him from the post in September 2082, he filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the decision. Hearing the petition, the Supreme Court had ordered the reinstatement of Shakya on December 22, 2082. After the court’s order, he returned to the responsibility of Executive Director of NEA.

However, after the government brought a special ordinance in Baisakh 2083 with a provision to remove public officials from their posts, Shakya was again removed from the post on the basis of that provision. Although the ordinance is now inactive, Shakya had again approached the Supreme Court saying that he has not been reinstated to his previous post.
