KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration has urged all local levels to adopt high alertness and make necessary preparations following the forecast of excessive rainfall in different parts of the country from September 22 to 24.

The Disaster Management and Social Inclusion Section under the Ministry has sent letters to the local levels across the country based on the forecast received from the Department of Meteorology and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority urging them to engage in disaster risk reduction and preparedness.

The Ministry has instructed the local levels to maintain high alertness in view of possible disaster risk and minimize the possible damage as there is a possibility of heavy rainfall from September 22 to 24.

The letter urged the employees working at the local level not to go on leave during the period and urged the Chief Administrative Officers to remain in regular contact with the Ministry.

The letter also calls for holding a meeting of the local disaster management committee to make necessary preparations and send information related to this to the Ministry.

The ministry has also urged the local levels to immediately relocate the people living in risky places and settlements to safer places in view of the possible risks. Instructions have also been issued to keep the community buildings, schools and other structures ready so that they can be used as temporary shelters if needed.

The Ministry has also urged the local levels to disseminate awareness mongering through local FM and social networking sites to inform the citizens about possible disasters in time.
