Kathmandu. Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that the recent flood in the Bhotekoshi River is a warning not only for Nepal but also for the world.

Addressing the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) this morning, Prime Minister Shah said, “A week ago, the world witnessed the horrific scene of flooding in Nepal’s Himalayan communities, which many have termed as a ‘Himalayan Tsunami’. The Bhotekoshi-Trishuli disaster was not only a local tragedy, it was also a warning to the world. ”

He also asked the General Assembly whether the sound of the warning was heard. His question was, “I ask you today: Have we really heard that warning?”

It may be reminded that it was the UN Secretary General who stood at Nepal’s Sagarmatha region some three years ago that the Himalayas that remain the roof of the world are melting and that this was sending a message to the world about the dangers of climate change.

He said, “Three years ago, the Secretary-General stood in our Everest region and warned humanity about the impending climate catastrophe. That cry from the roof of the world was not heard loudly. We heard it in Nepal, our community listened. Scientists all over the world listened. They kept repeating it with evidence. But we, the political leaders of the world, neglected to implement that warning. ”

The Prime Minister said that Nepal had to bear the tragic consequences of this in the form of floods in the Bhotekoshi last month. Prime Minister Shah said that the rapidly warming climate has destabilized the ecosystem of the fragile Himalayas according to the needs of the people at risk.

The Prime Minister said the sloppy terrain of the Himalayas has cracked due to the melting of the frozen soil, and the chain of risk of landslides and floods along with glacial rocks has increased.
