Bhotekoshi floods: Status of three people’s representatives still unknown

Rasuwa. The families of the victims have started the traditional rituals after they did not get any information about the two people’s representatives, including the vice-chairman of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, who went missing due to the devastating floods in Bhotekoshi of Rasuwa.
Vice-chairperson of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality Pratima Lama, Ward No. 2 Chairman Kami Tsering Tamang and Ward No. 5 Chairman Dawa Mingmar Tamang went missing in the flooded Bhotekoshi River on August 26. The three people’s representatives, who disappeared in the floods, were known as energetic and emerging leaders in the local area. Lama was elected as the vice-chairman of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality in the 2079 BS local level elections. He was active in political activities since his student life, giving priority to health, education and social justice. Kami Tshering, who was elected as the ward chairman from Ward No. 2 in the local elections by winning the hearts of the people through various social works, was always a people’s representative who always supported the people in their happiness and sorrow. On August 26, the flood of the Bhotekoshi river in Ghattekhola, Timure and Syaphrubesi areas of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality-2 took a severe form. The flood had completely damaged the local market, many houses and physical infrastructure.
A month has passed since the flood and the search operation of the local administration and security agencies is going on, but no information has been found of the missing yet. In this difficult time of the disaster, along with the families of the disappeared, the entire people of Rasuwa are deeply in mourning. Many employees of the rural municipality, teachers and children have also gone missing.
