Incessant rains, landslides disrupt supply of 1303 MW to electricity system

{{TAG_OPEN_div_44} Kathmandu. The power supply of about 1,303 MW has been disrupted due to floods and landslides triggered by incessant rains affecting power generation and transmission system in various parts of the country.

According to the available data, the power supply has been affected in Pokhara, Butwal, Hetauda and Kathmandu due to floods, fault of transmission line, problems in equipment and excessive load.TAG_OPEN_div_42

The worst affected area is the Pokhara region. About 200 MW of electricity has been affected due to a malfunction in the Kushma-New Butwal 220 KV transmission line. Similarly, about 155 MW of electricity has been affected due to the problem in the Rouhang-Dana transmission line number 1 and 2.TAG_OPEN_div_40

The floods have also disrupted the production and power supply of hydropower projects including Kaligandaki, Upper Madi, Super Madi, Sikles-Namarjung, Seti River-Karuwaset, Upper Dordi, Modi, among other hydropower projects. According to the report, more than 400 MW of electricity capacity has been affected from various projects in Pokhara region alone.TAG_OPEN_div_38

Similarly, about 110 MW of electricity has been affected due to a malfunction in the New Butwal-Kusma 220 KV transmission line in Raughat area. The line was expected to be restarted at 9:50 am.

The power supply was disrupted in the Butwal area after a tree fell on the New Bharatpur-New Butwal 220 kV transmission line. The power supply was restored at 9:51 am. The power supply at Kawasoti substation was also cut for about an hour due to the closure of the Chapar-Pathlaiya 132 kV transmission line.

About 32 MW of electricity has been affected due to the problem in the Mandu 66 KV transmission line due to floods in Hetauda area. According to the report, there is a problem in the equipment at Bharatpur substation under the Kawasoti-Bharatpur 132 kV transmission line.

Similarly, 20 MW of electricity at Simara substation, 80 MW at Amlekhgunj, Parwanipur and Birgunj and 25 MW at Kamne substation and industries have been affected.TAG_OPEN_div_30

The power system in the Kathmandu region was also disrupted for some time. Power supply was disrupted for about 10 minutes from 9 am to 9:10 am in Patan substation and Teku area. In Patan area, there was a problem due to the increase in power load in the Pathlaiya transmission line and the KL-1 Syuchatar 66 kV line at the same time.

Similarly, 20 MW of power was cut at Kawasoti substation, 25 MW at Hardi substation and up to 50 MW at Sunwal-Mania and Butwal areas. 20 MW of power was cut at Simara substation and 80 MW at industries in Amlekhgunj, Parwanipur and Birgunj.TAG_OPEN_div_26
