Efforts underway to open BP Highway due to erosion by Roshi River

Banepa. Various efforts are being made to open the BP Highway, which has been blocked at various places due to landslides and erosion of the Roshi river due to incessant rain in the last four days.

Chief District Officer (CDO) Gopal Kumar Adhikari informed that works are underway to clear the obstruction for vehicular movement along the Khurkot-Bhakundebesi section of the highway.TAG_OPEN_div_22

The team of the Division Road Office, Bhaktapur has been active in the operation of the road since this morning. He said that if the weather cooperates, there is a possibility of the road coming into operation from the afternoon of September 27.

The rainfall in the last few days has brought the problem of flood, landslide and river erosion to the surface once again along the BP Highway.TAG_OPEN_div_18

The road is now in the phase of permanent reconstruction after the floods and landslides in the Roshi River along with the incessant rains in the second week of September 2081 caused major damage to the Kavre section of the highway. After a large section of the road was washed away, temporary diversions were constructed at various places for the immediate operation of traffic.

The BP Highway, which is an important road linking eastern and central region of the country with the federal capital Kathmandu, has been constructed with technical and financial support from the Japanese Cooperation Agency (JICA).TAG_OPEN_div_14

has been connecting the capital with the transport, trade and daily life of the Terai and eastern districts. The obstruction on the highway will directly affect the passengers and drivers as well as the local settlements and trades.
