50,000 police personnel deployed for festive security

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has implemented the ‘Festival-Targeted Security Scheme-2083’ from today to make the security arrangements for Bada Dashain, Deepawali, Nepal Sambat and Chhath festival reliable and reliable.

Central Police Spokesperson Abinarayan Kafle said the security plan has been put in place to normalize life of the general public during the festival, to make transactions with banks and financial institutions safe and to ensure full security to the passengers going to various destinations.

“Theft, robbery, gambling and betting, smuggling along the international border and border crimes can take place during the festivals,” he said, adding that police have been deployed to control such criminal activities. ”

The police have pointed out the security challenges as smuggling of explosives, evading customs duty, theft in banks and financial institutions, looting, artificial shortage of foodstuffs, clothes and essentials, black marketeering, sale of expired or adulterated materials, hundi and counterfeit currency transactions.

Kafle said that more than 50,000 police personnel have been deployed to beef up security during the festivals. Passenger assistance desks have been set up at 408 places and 108 help desks at international border points.

Spokesperson Kafle said that the government has set up command posts at Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Provincial Police Office and District Police Office and made arrangements for mobilization of police from there.

During this period, the police will patrol on foot, mobile and rural areas. Arrangements have been made for checkpoints and traffic police, while the security of government and important institutions, prisons and other offices has been strengthened.

The police have decided to use drones, CCTV and body-worn cameras in the implementation of the festival security plan. The main markets of major cities including Kathmandu Valley, shopping malls, marts, banks and financial institutions, gold and silver and the areas where the business of gold and precious goods are traded have been kept under special surveillance. A zero-tolerance strategy has been adopted to deal with violence against women, children, gender and sexual minorities and senior citizens.

Millions of passengers are expected to leave the Kathmandu Valley during the festive season. The police have said that the provision of checking the driver’s license and keeping two drivers on long distances will be strictly enforced to reduce road accidents and loss of life and property.

“All vehicles will have to submit a mechanical test report seven days in advance, so that passengers will not be allowed to exceed the seat capacity,” Kafle said. The police are going to make the mechanical test report mandatory for the first time in Nepal.

The police have set a target to end the tendency of harassing, harassing, selling tickets at a high price, black marketeering and issuing tickets without seats in the vehicles going out of the Kathmandu Valley. Spokesperson Kafle said that the police is focusing on the safety of the citizens, easy movement and reducing accidents during the festival period.

“Directives have already been issued to the subordinate bodies to minimise the number of road accidents that may occur during the festival time”, he said, adding that arrangements have been made for peaceful, safe, dignified, systematic and reliable security during the festivals. ”

The police have linked the security arrangement with the performance. “The performance of the district police chief and the chief of the provincial police office is linked to the security arrangements,” he said.

Police have deployed a special team to deal with various incidents of disasters that may occur during the festival. Spokesperson Kafle said that the police personnel of the disaster management battalion have been deployed 24 hours for rescue, search, relief and security arrangements.
