Kathmandu. Minister for Information and Communications Dr. Bikram Timilsina has said that the government is creating a conducive environment to connect the youth power which is the capital of the country in entrepreneurship and innovation.
Addressing the fifth edition of ‘Nepal Youth Entrepreneurship Summit-2026’ organized by Nepal Business Institute and Confederation of Banks and Financial Institutions Nepal (CBFIN) here today, he said that the knowledge and skills of youths would contribute to the economic prosperity of the country through the use of technology.
“The biggest strength and capital of any country is the youth manpower. Without investing in research and innovation, the youth cannot fulfill their dreams and achieve economic prosperity in the country. For this, the government should create the necessary environment and the private sector will support it,” he said.
Stating that youth’s attraction and involvement towards entrepreneurship has been increasing across the globe, Minister Timilsina said that Nepal has been facilitating youths to utilize their potential and potential in production, service and technology.
Stating that innovation and entrepreneurship were not possible only through the efforts of a single agency, he insisted on the need of coordination and collaboration among the government, private sector, educational institutions and other stakeholders.
Stating that new human resources and experts were developing in Nepal in the information technology sector, he said the government wanted to utilize it as an opportunity for economic transformation.
He said that a large number of Nepali youths go abroad for foreign employment and in the coming days, Nepali service could be extended to the world market through the medium of information technology.
Now we have to move forward in the direction of selling services, not labor and manpower. Through information technology, we can provide services all over the world by staying in Nepal. This can create opportunities for the youth in the country and also contribute to the country’s economy,” he said.
Minister Timilsina said that the government has given priority to closing the digital divide, expanding internet access and improving the quality of service to fully realize the potential of information technology. He said that the government is working to launch 5-G this year with the goal of achieving remarkable progress in the telecommunication sector.
Stating that discussions were underway with the bodies concerned on how the country could reap maximum economic benefits from the opportunities available in IT, he stressed the need of linking the expansion of technology with employment, production and economic activities.
Stressing on the link between technology and human creativity, Minister Timilsina said although technology can change the ways of working, it should be utilized as a medium to enhance the capacity of human beings rather than to diminish them.
“Technology should be linked to human creation and get the maximum benefit out of it. Information technology can change the nature of work, but it has not diminished the importance of people. Technology should be used as a tool and we should be able to benefit from it,” he said.
Stating that the government’s responsibility was not limited to policy-making, he made it clear that an environment would be created for the citizens, entrepreneurs and the entire economy to directly benefit through the effective implementation of the policy.
