KATHMANDU: The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen’s Houthi rebels said it had intercepted and destroyed a drone and a ballistic missile aimed at Saudi Arabia.
The coalition’s spokesman, Turki al-Maliki, made the announcement in a separate statement via social media X on Monday. According to him, drones were intercepted in Saudi Arabia’s eastern province, while Houthi rebels fired ballistic missiles at Khamis Mushait in the country’s southwestern region.
Cross-border tensions have escalated after two Saudi airports were targeted on Sunday. According to Saudi aviation officials, one Pakistani national was killed and 11 others were injured in the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Similarly, King Fahd International Airport near Dammam was also attacked.
Earlier on Saturday, 12 people were killed and 309 wounded in a Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport, Saudi officials said. The continued attacks and counterattacks have further escalated tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
