Buses worth millions of rupees in dilapidated condition

Banke. The city buses worth millions purchased by the Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City for the convenience of the residents of the municipality are becoming dilapidated due to non-operation.

In the fiscal year 2075/76, the sub-metropolis had purchased four 41-seater and three 36-seater buses for Rs 35.8 million. Spokesperson of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City, Pramod Rijal, said that the city bus was in a state of disuse within eight years of the purchase.

According to him, the sub-metropolis had called for a tender for the operation of seven buses and bus park after finding that the sub-metropolis could not bear the expenses even though the sub-metropolis itself operated the bus with the help of a female helper.

Shivshakti General Order Suppliers had accepted the contract for Rs 13.75 million annually after the tender was called for the minimum price of Rs 5 million for seven buses and Rs 5.1 million for the parking fee of Nepalgunj Bus Park. Spokesperson Rijal said that the contractor company had parked the city bus at the bus park after the loss in the operation of the bus.

For the resumption of the buses that had been parked for three years, the Sub-Metropolitan City Executive Board had formed a study committee under the coordination of Ward No. 4 Chairman Gopal Pun. The committee’s term has expired, but the report has not been submitted yet.

Committee coordinator Gopal Pun said that the report could not be submitted on time due to household works. Stating that the committee could not carry out the work due to the lack of extension of the committee’s term, he said that the city bus could not be operated under normal condition as it was now in a dilapidated condition

“Hundreds of thousands of rupees will be spent to bring the buses that have been parked for long in a condition to resume operation”, Pun said, adding, “More publicity was given than the city bus service that was said to be operated for the convenience of the municipality residents. ”

The residents of the municipality have expressed concern and concern over the lack of achievement even though the state funds were spent on the grant received for the targeted group. Coordinator of the Citizen Concern Forum, Krishna Prasad Shrestha, said that it was a matter of damage to the city’s prestige to keep the buses purchased from the budget for the poor.
