Bailey bridge to be constructed at Arughat

Gorkha. The Nepal Army and the Gorkha Road Project have jointly started the work of installing a bailey bridge at Arughat.

Last Sunday, the flood in Budhigandaki had washed away a portion of the bridge at Arughat connecting Gorkha and Dhading. The construction of the Bailey Bridge has been started to resume temporary transport services before Dashain. According to the Gorkha Road Project Office, the work of the Bailey Bridge is underway to bring the bridge connecting Gorkha and Dhading into operation before Dashain.

Traffic between Arughat Bazaar and Prithvi Highway was disrupted after the motorable bridge at Arughat was swept away by the flood. Vehicular movement in northern Gorkha was affected during Dashain as vehicles were not allowed to ply on the road.

The Nepal Army has carried out the technical work of connecting the deck of the Gorkha Road Planning Office and the Bailey Bridge. “As of today, we have been able to prepare jeeps on both sides of the bridge. The Nepal Army will start the work of deck setting from tomorrow,” said Binod Pun, chief of the Gorkha Road Planning Office. Vehicles will be plying there before Dashain. ”

Last Sunday, the Gorkha side of the bridge linking Dhading and Gorkha was washed away by a flash flood blocked by a landslide at Ungilung, a subsidiary of Budhigandaki. “A 22-meter-long and four-meter-wide bailey bridge is being connected to the flooded area,” said Pun, adding, “The work is being carried out day and night so that vehicles can be operated before Dashain.” He said that the work has not stopped even at night. The bridge was constructed in 2070 BS to connect Arughat, Dharche and Chumnubri rural municipalities of northern Gorkha with the Prithvi Highway.
